Buffets, Inc. ad agency of record, Ink Link Marketing, wins national award

Ink Link Marketing, the PR and Promotions Agency of Record for Buffets, Inc, headquartered in Greer, won a silver award for New Agency of the Year presented by Bulldog Reporter LLC.

Ink Link, based out of Pembroke Pines, Fla., took one of the nation’s largest steak-buffet restaurant companies Buffets, Inc., in the midst of its second bankruptcy filing, and introduced new programs and helped generate positive news.

Dogs know it's their Tuesday on Trade

Dogs on Trade's meeting place was the Greer Trading Post on Trade Street.

The dogs have taken over Greer Station and seem to be proud of it.

Tuesday's on Trade, a promotion of Greer Station Association, to invite owners of dogs to bring their pets downtown, is held once a month. On Tuesday, Jessica Monroe hosted the dogs in front of her Greer Trading Post store.

Charlotte Rigby was giving a testimonial of her association with Allen Tate Realtors at the Greer office ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on Tuesday.

Rigby and her husband, Dan, sold their company, Rigby Company Realtors, to Allen Tate six years ago. “This has been good for us,” Rigby said. “It’s brought us more depth, brought us more systems for agents and it took Rigby Company to a new level.” Rigby is a Leader at the Greenville and Easley offices.

Architects and engineers of NewSpring met with the Greer Planning Advisory Committee on Thursday to listen to the city’s department heads clarify ordinances and codes.

The Bon Secours Wellness Arena begins branding its  entertainment home Oct. 1.

The Bon Secours Wellness Arena is the new entertainment home for the former BI-LO Center in Greenville. Bon Secours St. Francis Health System acquired the naming rights as a part of a 10-year $4.5 million partnership.

The name change, announced by the Greenville Arena District, becomes official Oct. 1.

Property owners convince commissioners to deny zoning request

Freida Gray, left, and Erin and Perry Williams convinced planning commissioners to deny Greer Baptist Association-owned property to be rezoned commercial.

Commissioners had to take sides against one of two friends of the city and it made for a gut-wrenching decision on a downtown rezoning request.

The City of Greer Planning Commission voted 5-0 to deny property owned by the Greer Baptist Association (GBA) at 309 West Poinsett Street to be rezoned from residential to C-2 (commercial) for the purpose of operating a Christian bookstore.

Mayor Rick Danner left Saturday for China for his second economic trip within a year. This trip differs than his visit last September in that it will directly result with China interests in the Greer Inland Port and educational opportunities within the upstate.

$15,000 grant awarded Habitat for Humanity from Bank of America

Brian Jones, Sr. Vice-President, Greenville Market President and S.C. Area Executive (blue hat, center) for Bank of America, presented a grant of $15,000 from Bank of America Foundation to Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County. The Thursday presentation included BofA construction volunteers.

Habitat Greenville received funding from Civitan Charities of Greenville, The John I. Smith Foundation and TD Charitable Foundation to provide for four Habitat home builds on Gray Street in Travelers Rest.

$1.5 million reversal revises Greer State Bank's valuation

Greer Bancshares Inc., the parent company of Greer State Bank, revised its previously reported second quarter net income attributable to common shareholders from $7.7 million or $3.12 per diluted common share to $6.2 million or $2.53 per diluted common share.

The valuation allowance reversal was recorded as $5.3 million and has been revised to be $3.9 million.

Duke Energy approved for rate hike that begins Sept. 18

Duke Energy can raise its rates to residential customers in South Carolina 10 percent over two years. The state Public Service Commission approved the rate hike Wednesday.

That will reflect in higher customer bills beginning Sept. 18. The second rate hike occurs on the same date in 2014.
