BMW closed Thursday, Inland Port undecided

The BMW Manufacturing facility in Greer has informed associates and suppliers it will be closed early Thursday and to call in the morning to determine when the plant will resume shifts. An expected half-foot of snow or more was forecast in the Upstate.
The Greer Inland Port has not made a decision but expects to announce its operating schedule this evening. The port will follow closely BMW’s closing and re-opening.
Ports Authority to build operations center on BMW's Greer campus

A site operations center has been approved by the South Carolina Ports Authority to be built on the BMW campus in Greer.
BMW leases the industrial site from the SCPA, and as the landowner SCPA will manage the construction process of the facility, according to the announcement made in Charleston. The project is estimated to be completed in the first quarter of 2016.
Greer-produced BMWs race past $9 billion value, keeps S.C. nation's leading auto exporter

BMW Manufacturing Co. of Greer announced Friday that the export value of its passenger vehicles through the Port of Charleston in 2014 totaled $9.2 billion, confirming the company as the leading U.S. automotive exporter.
According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, this accomplishment represents a 13 percent increase over BMW’s 2013 value. In 2014, more than 260,000 vehicles were exported from its Greer plant, over 70 percent of the plant’s total volume.
City commits $1 million to Partnership For Tomorrow, economic development

The City of Greer has committed $1 million to the Partnership For Tomorrow for its 5-year master plan and economic development.
Mayor Rick Danner and City Administrator Ed Driggers made the historic and surprising announcement at a packed Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce First Friday Luncheon at the City Hall events venue. Danner’s address on the value of collaboration and why partnerships work set up the huge economic announcement.
